TH!NK, the Lakeshore Tobacco Prevention Network, is looking to recruit a few teens to assist them in attempting to purchase tobacco products to track the rate of sales to minors in Manitowoc County
Students need to be non-smokers and not use e-cigarettes either.
Students need to be age 16-17
Students work in pairs of two under our supervision, and we provide transportation. They don’t need to drive, but an ID (school or state) is required.
Students generally will be asked to volunteer 1 or 2 times per month for 3-5 hour shifts during spring, summer and fall. We generally schedule compliance checks after school or Saturday mid-morning.Students are trained and supervised and though we cannot compensate them as a paid employee, we do offer students verification of community service hours, great experience for work or college applications and at the end of the season we recognize our student volunteers with a celebration and a local gift certificate to show our appreciation. The tobacco compliance checks help our coalition educate clerks that sell tobacco, and recognize clerks and retailers who comply with the law and keep tobacco out of the hands of young people.
Students with an interest in law enforcement, public health, advertising or social work are encouraged to apply!
