On May 18th, a team with the WI 4-H Dog Project is having a fun day of hands-on activities to learn more about dogs and what dog quiz bowl is all about. This will be great for youth and for volunteers to learn about activities they can do with their teams. You don’t need a team to participate – all 4-H members are welcome to come and learn with us. No prior experience is necessary, just an interest in learning more about dogs.

Please note this is not a Dog Bowl Contest. It is a day of fun learning activities about dogs that can be used to practice for future contests. One activity example: we will project an image of a dog on the wall, and you will work as a group to label the body parts. 

Also, we will not be working with dogs on this day – so make sure to leave your four-legged friend at home.

What is a quiz bowl (we’ll go over this more on the learning day)?  Dog Quiz Bowl is a “jeopardy style” competition where all questions deal with dog topics.  4-H Dog Bowl encourages a 4-H member to develop a more complete knowledge of dogs and related subjects. This contest provides an educational dog program for all project members, including those who may not own a dog project animal, and provides a way to develop alertness, self-confidence, teamwork skills, and mastery in the area of dogs. For the competition, teams compete with each other using a buzzer to ring in and answer questions asked by a moderator. After being acknowledged by the moderator, the team member gives their answer out loud and can earn points for their team. The teams with the most points at the end of the round wins and advance in the game bracket. Teams will typically play more than one round in a bracket style competition. The teams are divided into age divisions and teams can consist of 3 or 4 members.
